Treatment stages

Each treatment at Sinchi Runa has important steps that participants must accomplish in order to achieve true transformation. Whether participants come to the Center for spiritual pursuits or to heal some kind of physical or psychological condition, it is necessary for them to successfully complete the following steps:

Preliminary stage

The first requirement is that the participants themselves initiate the enrollment process by requesting treatment and demonstrating a genuine desire to heal.

Each treatment begins with physical, mental, and energetic cleansing. The purpose of cleansing is to purge all of the toxic substances, unhealthy habits, and emotional or mental patterns that are causing disharmony. This cleansing is performed by the intake of emetics and/or purgative plants and Kambo sessions. This detoxification process is complimented by Ayurvedic cleansing, plant baths, saunas, and hot springs when available.

After the initial cleansing, the inner work begins with a period of isolation that can last between 1 to 2 weeks. During this period, participants go through a deeper detoxification process. Those that are in need of extra physical recovery will be given a specific diet that helps with neurological rehabilitation. Mental detoxification is experienced via the silence that is obtained during the isolation period. Various check-ins in the form of private consultations performed by our facilitators will also occur during this time. Participants will learn how to observe the unconscious mind and self through dream interpretation. This allows for a deeper understanding of their personal circumstances.

The detoxification stage will be complete once the first “Spiritual Diet” is over. Every spiritual diet is followed by a “post-diet” period, during which participants integrate everything that they have come to comprehend during the diet. It should be noted that direct contact with other participants that have already started treatment at the Center is not allowed until the initial detoxification and isolation period has concluded.

The objective of the detoxification stage is to expose and reduce patterns of fear, anxiety, and/or withdrawal. This helps us to more accurately determine the current state of the participant and finish planning their treatment process.

Decoding and Deprogramming.

Life experiences that have inflicted wounds on the soul creates reactions that can be healed though a process of decoding and deprogramming. The healing process is an opportunity for participants to let go of the excess of emotional baggage that they have accumulated during their lifetime. This stage allows to process and digest emotions that have led participants to a state of suffering; it enables them to heal through their own understanding the wounds that have been caused by familial, societal and cultural conditioning.

The foundations of our treatments are based on silence and individual work. However, the daily living with other participants and therapists allows to clarify the unhealthy relational dynamics. Every interaction and ´incident´ creates an opportunity to change unconscious behavior patterns that are causing dysfunction and suffering. At Sinchi Runa, The attitude with which conflicts are confronted are altogether realistic, pragmatic and compassionate.

The healing process with master plants helps participants to take consciousness of their dysfunctional relational dynamics and comprehend their cause or reason in their hearts. Observing these dynamics with introspection and from an objective perspective, allows participants to understand their own personality, giving space to create a healthier restructuring of their personal dynamics.

This restructuring of personality affects spontaneously on the existential definition of the participants own circumstance. It allows them to break free from the cycle of unconscious reaction towards suffering; empowering their existence as directors and creators of their own life.

Opening the Heart or Capacity to Feel

The most important part of the treatment is for participants to develop the ability to feel and put aside logic or mental reasoning. Healing with master plants requires an energetic opening to feel that allows to connect with one’s inner wisdom and the universe.

This stage of the process involves meditation, silence, and deepening the understanding of the metaphysical use of plants. Each of these practices contribute to the openness of the participant’s being which helps them to further comprehend and heal. This is a very delicate stage for the participant because they might start to recall past events in their lives that have yet to be understood and digested. We pay close attention to participants during this phase in order to monitor and help with any potential crisis that may arise.

We implement diverse techniques for spiritual awakening, along with complementary therapies in the transpersonal field. This allows participants to become aware of the roots that have caused emotional, social, existential or spiritual disharmonies. It is these roots that originates states of feeling a lack of sense of life and compulsive actions such as substance abuse. These roots can also generate emotional habits that lead to state of suffering, as is the case of depression and reactive states of fear or panic such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

We help participants develop emotional management techniques to deal with the emotional states that they are experiencing as a result of the conflicts in their lives. These techniques helps to manage suffering and raise comprehension by teaching the participant to flow with the passing of every moment and understand any conflicts as simply circumstances that they must pass through. When the participant can transcend their thoughts and emotions, they can more clearly see and understand the reason for their circumstances and create learning opportunities out of them.

Developing Resilience

The introspective process performed by participants during the spiritual diets is oriented towards metaphysical concerns. The greatest achievement at this level is to discover the meaning of their own existence, their individual vocation and developing resilience to shape their existence through the elaboration of a concrete plan of life. Keeping this perspective in force is a guarantee of cure for participants and becomes the cornerstone of their healing.

Throughout the treatment, we delve into the personal interests of participants in order to help them rebuild themselves according to their capabilities and opportunities that are present in their live. Through this process, the adversities that they have experienced become tools that can be utilized in their favor, helping them to rebuild their personal existence.

This stage initiates the all-important phase of exiting various states of emotional dependency. At this point, spiritual elements are integrated as pillars of the participant’s new life which will be oriented towards personal growth and the right to exist.

Contact with the Exterior

Complete disconnection from the exterior world allows participants to concentrate all of their energy on the healing process. It creates the space that is required for participants to properly and objectively observe their lives without interference from the elements that led to their unhealthy circumstances.

The relational dynamics of participants with their inner circle are of utmost importance to keep them totally disconnected in the previous stages. In the psycho-spiritual, depression and post-traumatic stress processes it is advisable to establish direct contact until the end of treatment. Usually these treatments range from 1 to 3 months and in these cases it is advisable to organize anything that will require attention with due time to make this possible.

In the process of addiction or substance abuse is recommended that participants does not return for at least 1 year to the environment where the consumption was originated or developed. These treatments range from 6 to 12 months and contact with the exterior is monitored by the center in due time. This stage involves a family harmonization that takes place in the middle of the treatment, where the parent(s) or close one needs to also go through a process to heal the dynamic that was established prior to treatment and understand a new dynamic that allows them to develop a healthy relationship.

Treatments 1 to 3 months:

For processes that involve psycho-spiritual development, depression, and post-traumatic stress, it is advisable for participants to refrain from re-establishing direct contact with anyone from their inner circle until the very end of their treatment. These types of treatments usually range from 1 to 3 months in duration. As such, it is also advisable to make preparations in advance for anything that might come up that requires the participant’s attention.

Exploratory adventures or ‘pilgrimages’ that take place outside of the Center will be arranged for participants. These activities are assigned when all facilitators are in agreement that it will help the participant’s growth and contribute positively to their process. While participants are outside of the Center they must be responsible and respectful of the delicacy of their process.

Treatments 6 to 12 months:

Participants may have contact with family members or their intimate circle by Skype or phone after their third spiritual diet and in the case of substance abuse, after the `family harmonization´ has been successfully completed. The family harmonization process generally takes place in the middle of the treatment. This is when the parent or another family member performs a process that heals the relational dynamic that was present between them and the participant before the treatment. Participants have personal contact with the exterior begins after the sixth month and is monitored to begin their insertion into the world. Participants who achieve through this stage, have the challenge and opportunity to start a whole new life.

Disconnection with the exterior allows participants to concentrate all their energy on the healing process and gives place to observe their lives without interference from the elements that one way or another have created the circumstance they are living.

Harmonization of Family Constellation (Substance Abuse)

Substance abuse is an issue that involves those surrounding the user just as much as it involves the user. Healing and understanding must happen inside everyone involved if the user and their family hopes to be cured and remain cured. Typically, the participant’s inner circle is unconsciously scapegoating the user and unknowingly perpetuating their ‘victim complex’, thus contributing to their harmful cycles instead of helping them break out of it. This stage is crucial for the healing of participants and it is essential that the family is in the willingness to confront its share of responsibility that induces the cycle of dependency.

This stage is usually performed before participants begin to have contact with the exterior and is very important to establish a completely new relational dynamics. It is important to understand that in these cases, there are no guilty parties. All those involved have to make an effort to leave behind the problems that have been co-created amongst them. This is a beautiful process of forgiving, understanding, and committing to oneself and one another.

The state of dependency must be understood by all parties to end the games that promotes the cycle of abuse. One must understand that the relational dynamics have an exchange and are established unconsciously. It is necessary to clarify, to understand and heal the dependency of all parties to create a new relationship that is founded on freedom and true love. The very fact of doing this effort begins to consciously generate a process of transparency that allows them to harmonize their relationship based on truth.

Closing of the Process

We encourage participants to form a life plan and outline concrete steps that they are committing to take during/after treatment. Typically, participants feel the need to almost completely transform their existence. As a result, they often feel like they no longer belong to the way of life that they were living in before they came to the Center. This is perfectly normal and should be viewed with objectivity and compassionate comprehension of one’s life journey.

In cases of psycho-spiritual development and healing from depression or post-traumatic stress disorder, it is advisable for participants to discard or let go of what they now understand is not useful in their lives. To do this they must try to change their environment as soon as they return home. It is important to remove the people, places, and things that no longer serve the participants and their new, healthy state of being. By adjusting the environment to favor and support the participants, they will have an easier time maintaining the work that they have done and will be able to continue their life-long journey of self-awareness, self-observation, and personal evolution.

In the case of substance abuse, it is ideal for participants to delay their return to their city/country of origin or ‘old stomping grounds’ until they have completely integrated the work that they have done at Sinchi Runa. It is important to allow ample time for their new states of consciousness to be exercised and solidified in a safe and new environment. Returning to old/familiar environments can be dangerous and triggering if the work has not yet been fully integrated. It is worth taking the time to honor the great personal work that the participants

During the closing of the process we perform exercises that help participants root to Earth and get connected to their true essence. By this time, participants have the tools that they need, now they just have to have the willingness to trust and follow their hearts. This allows them to continue on a new life path that is based on their own personal truth. This will lead them to their self-realization as human beings, were true peace and happiness resides.
